MEETING | Minutes

Westport Transit District Directors:  Jim Hood (by telephone) and Bud Titsworth; RTM Transit Committee: Cornelia Olsen and David Floyd; and, Norwalk Transit District:  Richard Bangs and Nancy Carroll.

The meeting was called to order at 8:30 AM.  The minutes of the previous meeting (12/9/2011) were reviewed for accuracy and accepted as submitted.

Public Comment
Cornelia Olsen and David Floyd introduced themselves as members of the RTM Transit Committee.  Bud Titsworth gave them a brief overview of the role of the Westport Transit District and the Directors.  The operation of the public transit services by the Norwalk Transit District was also reviewed.

There was no other public comment.

Ridership
Mrs. Carroll shared ridership data through December 2011. Mr. Hood expressed concern with the ridership decline above and beyond what was anticipated as a result of service cuts.   It was agreed that careful monitoring of ridership would be maintained.

Survey Results
Mrs. Carroll reported that the survey was completed the second week of January and the response rate was 70%.  Both Directors indicated they needed more time to review the results and the comments received from passengers.

Audit Results
It was reported that the audit of the Norwalk Transit District was completed and a copy of that audit was being sent to the Directors along with the letter requested addressing allocation of costs.

State Budget
Mr. Bangs reported that the State share of assistance was cut by $150,000 for FY’2012 as a result of the reduction in Town assistance and the subsequent service cuts.

Town Budget
Mr. Bangs reported that the request for funding for FY’2013 had been submitted to the Town.  The assistance request was an increase of 3% over this year’s level or $7235.  Highlights of the budget submittal were the fuel efficiencies achieved by using smaller vehicles and the modest increase in health insurance costs.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:00 AM.
