On Time Performance Issues
We are well aware that WHEELS buses have a serious problem maintaining on-time performance. As a result of the Governor’s recent bus initiative we will receive four new buses during the summer of 2008. These new buses will be used to enhance service on routes 3, 9, 10, and 13, the routes with the most serious on-time performance issues. Service frequencies will be reduced from every thirty minutes to 20 minutes. However we will give these route 40 minutes to complete their round trip. This should allow both these routes and the entire system to once again run on or close to schedule.
Update on the Pulse Point
The Pulse Point on Burnell Boulevard is overdo for a serious face lift. Redesign of the facility will include a canopy, security cameras, additional seating, and a pass vending machine is in its final stages. The District expects to begin reconstruction during the spring of 2008.
South Norwalk Rail Station Study
The District has received a federal grant and matching funds from the City of Norwalk and Norwalk Redevelopment Agency to conduct a study to redesign the South Norwalk rail station into a true inter-modal facility. The study is due to be completed during the late summer or early fall of 2008.
West Avenue Development
As private developers move forward with design of their West Avenue projects from 95/7 to the south to Avalon Bay to the north, the Transit District is right there redesigning bus service along the corridor to meet the needs that will be generated by over 3,000,000 square feet of development and redevelopment. Plans are under way to expand bus and shuttle service in this corridor as projects come on-line.
